VIASPACE Press Release

VIASPACE Presentation on Grassoline Featured at 4th Renewable Energy Finance Forum China

05/26/2009

CEO Sees Giant King Grass, a Renewable Low Carbon Nonfood Crop,

as Biomass Source for Liquid Biofuels and Replacing Coal in Power Plants

PASADENA, CA-May 26, 2009-VIASPACE Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: VSPC), a clean energy company providing products and technology for renewable and alternative energy, reported that Chief Executive Dr. Carl Kukkonen made an invited presentation titled "Grassoline: Fast-Growing Grass for Cellulosic Biofuels and Animal Feed" at the 4th Renewable Energy Finance Forum China (REFF-China) held May 12-13, 2009, in Beijing.

The forum, to present knowledge and insights in the renewable energy market in China, was attended by financiers, policy shapers, project developers and product and technology manufacturers from China, Southeast Asia, India, Australia, Europe and the United States.

Including VIASPACE's featured presentation on Giant King Grass as a dedicated biomass crop for biofuels and electricity generation, the forum included presentations on Chinese government policy, wind and solar power, biomass and waste-to-energy, industrial efficiency, and finance. VIASPACE's presentation will be available on its new website, which will be launched later this week at http://www.viaspace.com/.

In 2008 China ranked first in renewable energy investment and second in energy consumption behind the United States, with the Chinese government strongly supporting renewable energy, including offering substantial subsidies for liquid biofuels and biomass-based electricity generation. China has banned biofuels made from food crops such as corn.

More specifically, Kukkonen discussed the emerging trend toward the use of nonfood crops such as Giant King Grass to produce liquid biofuels for automobiles and trucks. "Liquid biofuels include low-carbon cellulosic methanol, ethanol and green gasoline, which are forms of 'grassoline,' a new term to indicate their renewable 'green' sources."

Kukkonen also discussed the near-term opportunity to use Giant King Grass to partially or completely replace coal as the fuel source for electricity generating power plants. "As existing power plants are converted to biomass, and new biomass-dedicated power plants are built, Giant King Grass represents a recurring revenue stream from continuing sales not only to electricity powerplants but also to biofuel production plants."

Addressing environmental concerns, Kukkonen pointed out that just as people breathe oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide, and plants breathe carbon dioxide and exhale oxygen, the same process applies to biofuels and biomass. "Using Giant King Grass for biofuels can be a carbon-neutral process. Burning a biofuel releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, but the next crop of Giant King Grass 60 days later absorbs the carbon dioxide. Therefore the process is not only renewable but also results in little or no addition of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere."

From a business standpoint, Kukkonen outlined the advantages of Giant King Grass. "It is extremely fast-growing, and up to four or five crops can be harvested in a year, and it has multiple uses as a feedstock for liquid biofuels and as an energy source for electricity generating power plants. Aside from renewable energy uses, it was originally cultivated as animal feed for dairy cows, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, fish and poultry, which represents a large secondary opportunity."
