VIASPACE Press Release
VIASPACE Debuts New Fuel Cell and Battery Products to Asian Market Fuel Cell Expo in Tokyo
02/27/2008
VIASPACE DEBUTS NEW FUEL CELL AND BATTERY PRODUCTS TO ASIAN MARKET AT WORLD'S LARGEST FUEL CELL EXPO IN TOKYO
PASADENA, CA and Tokyo, Japan -February 27, 2008-- VIASPACE Inc. (OTCBB: VSPC) Energy Division and its subsidiary Direct Methanol Fuel Cell Corporation (DMFCC) debuted several new fuel cell and alternate energy products to the Asian marketplace at its booth at FC EXPO 2008, the world's largest fuel cell and hydrogen industry exhibition, which opened today in Tokyo. In 2007, the Expo drew 24,500 attendees from 53 countries and included 392 press attendees. 2008 is expected to set a new record.
Dr. Carl Kukkonen, CEO of both VIASPACE and DMFCC, said, "Fuel Cell Expo 2008 is a great event. Not only do we get exposure to new potential customers and partners, we can meet with our current global partners because everyone is here for the show. For the first time, we are displaying a direct methanol fuel cell from our teaming partner Antig of
Taiwan, and a fuel cell test station from Gashub, another partner located in Malaysia.
Our booth features an operational demonstration of the VIASPACE laser-based humidity sensor, the VIASENSOR HS-1000, for hydrogen fuel cells that makes critical humidity measurements in real time. Customers like to see things actually working, not just a static display of products. There is a tremendous push toward commercialization of fuel cell products in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the People's Republic of China, all well represented at the Expo."
Kukkonen continued, "We have some of DMFCC's newest valve and fuel cartridge designs manufactured by the SATO Group of Japan. DMFCC focuses on producing and distributing methanol fuel cartridges designed to provide the energy source for laptop computers, cell phones and other portable electronic devices to be powered by direct methanol fuelcells."
Kukkonen concluded, "Advanced and safe batteries are critically needed in future hybrid and electric vehicles, and batteries will also be hybridized with fuel cells for portable electronics applications. VIASPACE is moving into the battery business and we are displaying our newest entry in the VIASENSOR product line, the BA-1000-Battery Electrode Health Analyzer. The BA-1000 is a breakthrough, cutting edge test device that
nondestructively measures the properties of phase changes and other anomalies internal to lithium battery cells. The BA-1000 product resulted from the pioneering work of Dr. Rashid Yazami and his team at Caltech and CNRS in Grenoble France. VIASPACE holds the exclusive license to this technology. This is a very exciting show for VIASPACE."
